Bryan

Happy Coding, Happy 2026!

English Version:

As 2025 is about to draw to a close, looking out at the streets of Taipei, I can’t help but reflect on my career journey over the past year. This year has been one filled with challenges and surprises for me at FormosaUp.

uP is a company focused on developing desktop POS systems and integrating credit card processing services. Its headquarters is located in the United States, while the Taiwan division, where I work, only established its software R&D center this year. This article aims to document how we built a modern development team from the ground up, embracing AI and cloud technologies along the way.

A Bridge Across the Pacific: Our Background

uP primarily focuses on the U.S. market, while our Taiwan team serves as a vital engine driving technological innovation. Our CTO plays a crucial role, traveling regularly between Taiwan and the United States. Not only does he keep both teams closely connected, but more importantly, he continually brings back first-hand insights about the latest trends and needs of the U.S. market.

This tight connection allows us, though physically based in Taiwan, to clearly feel the pulse of the American fintech industry. Every line of code we write directly impacts business operations across the ocean. This sense of true “global participation” is one of the most captivating aspects of working here.

From an Empty Office to a 12-Member Elite Team

Thinking back to when we first started, we were greeted by a somewhat spacious and quiet office. We were still exploring, still searching for teammates.

Over the past year, we’ve grown like a startup in incubation. Our members came from diverse industries, each bringing unique backgrounds and skills. We are a “small but refined” team, just 12 people, but that size gives us the most effective communication and collaboration. We’ve watched the office transform from quiet to lively, with discussions and keyboard typing filling the air. That shared sense of “building something together” has been the most precious reward of this year.

Embracing Change: Our Approach to Software Development

At uP, we don’t just write code, we practice true “software engineering.”

  1. Building a Complete Software Development Environment
One of our greatest achievements this year was establishing a comprehensive development process through constant discussion and refinement as a team. From Development, Testing, Integration, Deployment, to Observability, we strive for automation and standardization at every stage. We are committed to building cloud-native applications to ensure flexibility and scalability.
  2. Fully Embracing AI — Moving Toward AI-Native
2025 is the year AI truly becomes practical, and our team is already far ahead. At uP, AI isn’t just a buzzword, it’s part of our daily workflow. We’ve fully integrated AI tools into our development process. Team members frequently and proactively exchange ideas like, “How can we optimize the context so AI can produce a more complete architecture?” or “How can we use AI to quickly refactor this legacy code?” Together, we’re learning how to deeply collaborate with AI, making it the most powerful pair-programming partner. Much of this is thanks to our CTO, who not only supports but encourages us to experiment with new tools, even subsidizing AI tool expenses. This open culture—“We’re not afraid of you using it; we’re only afraid you won’t”—allows us to explore technological boundaries without hesitation.

Looking Ahead: Building the Next-Generation POS System

As we stand at the end of 2025 and look toward the future, we still have a long road ahead, but we’re full of hope.

We are committed to shaping this team into a truly engineering-driven, AI-native development powerhouse. While technology is important, people are at the core. We respect diverse cultures and backgrounds and value everyone’s voice, because we believe diversity sparks innovation.

As a key driving force in the company’s digital transformation, our mission is clear: to build the next-generation POS system. We’re not just stacking features. We aim to use technology to bring a qualitative leap to traditional payment and retail systems.

If you’re passionate about cloud-native development, AI collaboration, and cross-border software engineering, the story of FormosaUP is still being written, and we’d love for you to be part of it.

Happy Coding, Happy 2026!
